Mad Men!

2011-11-23 2:42 pm

I've heard a lot of good things about this show 'Mad Men', I know it's not a new show any more, but I'd never gotten around to watching it until recently.

My brother was going on about how good it is and told me I should catch up and that he had all the series so far, so I asked to borrow them. I was expecting him to turn up with the DVD box sets or something, but instead he came along and handed me an r4 sdhc claiming it's full to bursting with all the episodes.

Typical of my brother, it's actually a tiny little memory card that he uses in his Nintendo, for which he also gave me the extension converter so I can plug it into my computer and watch it that way. Very nifty, but personally, I would've preferred the box sets.

It's based in the 50s which is quite fascinating to watch, the style is so different and the women all look fantastic and glamorous and sexy without dressing quite so risque or lacking-in-the-clothes-department as some do these days.

I've got a lot to catch up on before it returns in March, it was supposed to return in January so I've got a bit of extra time!

Memories

2011-11-21 5:45 pm

You know that feeling when you see something and it throws you back to memories form your childhood or earlier years?

Well, I was just looking through a Flickr contact's photos and saw this funny photo of bits of Lego, and it totally threw me back to when I was playing Lego. That green thing is like a tool that helps you to take detach smaller bricks from others if they get stuck, I remember having a grey one!

I miss playing with Lego, it's not the same now though. There are so many huge amazing Lego sets now, like Doctor Who and Indiana Jones. I saw some amazing lego star wars sets I just wish I had someone to buy them for, though I must admit I was tempted by them myself - they'd be one hell of a boredom buster!

Scientology's Beliefs

2011-11-16 5:02 pm

Scientology believes that its doctrines have the same significance and objectivity as scientific laws. The Church of Scientology says, “Scientology works 100 percent of the time when it is properly applied to a person who sincerely desires to improve his life”. L. Ron Hubbard, the creator of Scientology said of the ‘religion’: “For a Scientologist, the final test of any knowledge he has gained is, ‘did the data and the use of it in life actually improve conditions or didn’t it?’”

Scientologists believe that the ‘thetan’, an individual’s cosmic force (or life force) is the true identity of the individual. The thetan is intrinsically good, and capable of unlimited creativity. A long time ago, thetans created the material universe for their own pleasure, the universe not really having an independent reality but only existing because most thetans agree it does. Thetans began to identify with their creation and eventually forgot their true nature, coming to think of themselves as nothing but material beings. Thetans are reborn again and again in different bodies, similar to the reincarnation principle in Hinduism. With each rebirth, the effects of the material universe become stronger on the thetan. I certainly wouldn’t sacrifice my damenuhren for this ‘religion’!

Lightning

2011-11-01 5:21 pm

Lightning is a spark (or an atmosphere electrostatic discharge) which is accompanied by thunder. Both phenomena usually occur during thunderstorms but have also been known to take place during dust storms or volcanic eruptions.

There are 16 million lightning storms annually and internationally. Lightning is of massive benefit to plant life as lightning ionizes the air it travels through, creating nitric oxide and subsequently nitric acid. Just how lightning initially forms is still a contested area of debate between fulminologists (people who study lightning). Root causes studied range from the impact of solar wind to atmospheric perturbations (such as friction, humidity, and atmospheric pressure). A popular theory for the cause of lightning is the presence of ice within a cloud. This ice is believed to forcibly separate positive and negative charges within the cloud leading to the formation of lightning. No one is pointing the finger at gu10 led’s obviously.

Some people are irrationally afraid of lightning (and often thunder in conjunction). This fear is called astrophobia.

How About Taking Archery On Holiday With You?

2011-07-25 1:22 pm

It might sound like a strange option, but with more and more adventure and hobby-based holidays and packages available, we shouldn't really be surprised by the amazing archery breaks on offer!

Chateau de Gurat in rural South France have dubbed themselves an 'archer's paradise', and offer great archery holidays for all the family.

Located on the sunny Charente Dordogne border, Chateau de Gurat is set amidst a natural amphitheatre surrounded by trees and a rambling stream, with all the archery facilities you could ever need.

Their prices aren't too bad for a family trip, you won't need to pull any money out of that growing Rowan Dartington investment to afford it!

They have two 90m archery ranges and host archers at any level, from total novices wanting to try their hands, to a top level experienced archer wanting quality time to work on their technique. If you give it a go, let us know how you get on!
